Performance Requirements of Single-Seal IG Units
In the article, the author is questioning single-seal insulating glass (IG) systems and their ability to pass ASTM certification reliably. The exact quote made by Rogers reads as follows: “Some units—particularly those with only a single-seal construction—may have difficulty passing the test requirements …”
Truseal has no idea what data Rogers might be using as the basis for his comment. Single-sealed IG units have been part of IG certification programs, such as the Insulating Glass Certification Council, the Insulating Glass Manufacturers Alliance, the Insulating Glass Manufacturers Association of Canada, Associated Laboratories Inc. and National Accreditation and Management Institute Inc., for decades. This clearly demonstrates that single-seal IG unit can perform well in certification. We would appreciate Mr. Rogers’ assistance in providing a qualification for the statement in this article related to single-seal performance.
Truseal manufactures a number of single-seal and dual-seal spacer systems that pass certification standards all over the world. In fact, Truseal uses certification testing as a form of quality assurance, and as part of our product development process, because the reliability of our spacers in certification is a critical design element.
Although we found the article to be appropriate and informative, we strongly question the validity of the comment stated above.
