ARAUCO Makes Key Acquisitions; Achieves FSC Certification

In January 2012, ARAUCO acquired an MDF and particleboard facility located in Moncure, N.C., which will be combined with Flakeboard’s existing mills and operate under the Flakeboard name. Kelly Shotbolt, president and CEO of Flakeboard, and his senior management team will combine and lead this company.
ARAUCO and Flakeboard are targeting a closing date during the second half of this year.
In addition, Arauco Panels USA LLC’s Moncure, N.C., facility has been issued an FSC chain of custody certificate by the Rainforest Alliance, which the company says provides independent, third-party verification that its facility is able to track FSC-certified material through its production process. The facility was also issued an FSC controlled wood certificate providing independent, third-party verification that it is in compliance with the FSC controlled wood standard, and is eligible to sell its non-FSC-certified wood products to other FSC CoC-certified manufacturers as “controlled wood.”
Arauco Wood Products Inc., the parent company of Arauco Panels USA LLC, also received its FSC chain of custody and controlled wood certification from Bureau Veratis.

Accessible through any Internet browser, the tool uses an intuitive software wizard along with high-resolution images and detailed illustrations to present selection criteria for entry door systems, interior doors, windows, window units, stair parts and other customized products. Users select their desired options, each with rules or constraints to ensure that the options are compatible and can be ordered properly. Once the order has been submitted, the dealer can confirm specs and pricing with the customer, relieve inventory, schedule assembly time and track associated labor.

“Securing an independent third-party certification of the recycled content within our Restoration Millwork products reinforces our overarching commitment to environmental responsibility,” says Rick Brinton, marketing manager for Restoration Millwork at CertainTeed Siding Products Group.
In order to verify and certify recycled content claims, GreenCircle conducted a detailed evaluation of the Restoration Millwork product line and the company’s manufacturing operations in Social Circle, Ga. The claims were verified for conformance with International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 14021 Environmental Labels and Declarations requirements, according to the announcement.
