Charles Jeffress has been sworn into office as the head of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).
In his new position as assistant secretary of labor for occupational safety and health, Jeffress will be responsible for administering a broad program to reduce work-related injuries and illnesses on the job. The program is to include the development of workplace safety and health standards to abate hazards, enforcement of those standards and consultation and education for both employers and workers.
Tubelite, Inc. of Reed City, MI, has announced that Tony Baca was awarded a 1997 Reader's Choice Award by Architectural Record Magazine. Baca, a vice president for Tubelite distributor Southwest Glass and Glazing, was recognized for his consistent contributions to projects, helpfulness in solving technical or site problems and assistance with technical and design information.
Sunglo Skylight Products of Kansas City, MO, has named Brian Wilson general manager for architectural, commercial and residential operations. Wilson, who formerly worked for Harmon and FGI Glass, will lead Sunglo's management teams in ensuring customer service.
Alumax Bath Enclosures of Dallas, TX, has promoted James Whitefield to the position of vice president of sales and marketing where he will be responsible for directing all marketing and sales efforts regarding bath enclosures, scaffolding and stadium seating. Peter J. Altman, Mike Gant and Scott Robinson were promoted from service center managers to regional service center managers.
Philadelphia, PA-based Albion Engineering Co. has appointed Stephen L. Gaynes sales/marketing manager for its broad line of dispensing tools/caulking guns.
Terrell, TX-based Vistawall Architectural Products recently announced the promotion of several individuals to sales manager positions. These include Bruce Rodgers, Southern California, Kent Baumann, central district, and Will Casper, eastern region.
In addition to these moves, the company announced the promotion of Della Rogers to the position of facility manager in its new Tucker, GA, facility.
Larry Garbert was promoted to the position of national accounts manager. Garbert, who has been with Vistawall for 22 years, was previously the company's eastern regional sales manager in Atlanta, GA. Lee Kellogg was named the company's new architectural window product manager. He has been with Vistawall since 1981.
In addition to these appointments, Kevin Haynes was promoted to engineering manager, Dicy Tovan as customer service trainee and Ken Brinkley and Steve Henderson as senior estimators. Vistawall also announced the addition of Theresa Castro as project manager, Lois Johnson and Timothy Deignan as customer service representatives, Tommy Taylor in lineal sales, Paul Belter as project manager. The company has also added James Hill to the customer service team, James Ferrara and Charles Easterbrooks to the estimating team and Darrell Cobb, Tildon Roberts and Dan Smith to the customer service department.
To implement changes in float operations, Visteon of Allen Park, MI, has given a number of employees new or expanded responsibilities. Clark Shilling, formerly float materials manager at the Tulsa, OK, plant, will serve as scheduling and distribution manager for float operations. Gary Reinke, who was material manager at Autovidrio, will help coordinate manufacturing planning for float glass. Bob Tweadey, Dick Crowley, Daryl Middleton and Jim Davis are working in the engineering office to support the manufacturing process and bring new architectural glass products to market. Finally, Lowell Rager will move into the position of architectural specialist and Carolyn Evans will move into the position of export coordinator from her former role as payroll analyst.
Grass Valley, CA-based Window Components, Inc. (WCI) has announced the addition of Jim Bassett to its team. Bassett, who previously served as the company's regional sales representative and regional sales manager, will work to strengthen WCI's presence in the western North American region.
United States Aluminum of Waxahachie, TX, has announced three promotions. Jeff Lockenour was promoted to general manager of the Waxahachie facility from the engineering department in its Illinois facility. Butch Price has been promoted to general plant manager in Waxahachie manufacturing plant.
