Information for the Architectural Community

Whether it’s glass, windows, hardware or glazing tapes, new products are entering the construction scene constantly. To keep the architectural community abreast of the latest developments, many manufacturers offer a variety of information sources on their products. Design Guide Available for Energy Efficient Commercial Windows
A new resource is available for building professionals designed to ensure that windows used in projects are energy efficient. The Designer’s Guide for Energy Efficient Commercial Windows is offered through the Northwest’s Commercial Window Initiative (CWI), and includes information on energy-efficient glazing solutions.

“The Designer’s Guide for Energy Efficient Commercial Windows is a quick reference for architects concerning energy-efficient windows,” said Jim Russell, a CWI representative. “We wanted to provide the design community with a tool that would simplify their efforts when it comes to designing energy-efficient windows in commercial buildings.”

Included in the guide are articles about windows’ impact on energy efficiency of commercial buildings, project profiles, listings of window and glass manufacturers doing business in the Northwest and more.

CRL Publishes New Rail System Catalog
Los Angeles-based C.R. Laurence Co. Inc. (CRL) has published a new catalog that features its entire line of handrails, cap railings, guardrails and windscreen systems. The line is featured in more than 128 pages, along with numerous images of completed installations. It also includes technical and specification data.

Titled the HR05 Architectural Railing Catalog, it includes all of the components, fasteners and tools that are necessary to create a variety of glass railing styles. It also provides information on both the dry glaze installation method as well as the wet glaze installation method.

Marks USA Offers Two New Publications for Locksets
Two new publications are available from Marks USA for specifying and choosing locksets. One is for ornamental security storm doors and the other is titled Facilities Lockset Guide.

According to the company, the first publication is a four-color brochure that assists specifiers and buyers in selecting mortise locksets. Standard and thin line versions are available, which feature screwless knobs and levers, proprietary no-droop lever springs, cylinder collar security inserts and more.

The Facilities Lockset Guide introduces the company’s Survivor key-in lever series, Defender deadbolt series and the Protector mortise lock series. The company says the guide assists institutional users by providing information about the lockset features, which meet the requirements of institutional facilities in terms of both design and maintenance.

PPG Offers Resources for Going Green
Pittsburgh-based PPG Industries has introduced its EcoLogical Building Solutions line of glass, coatings and paint for sustainable design, which it has outlined in a new 12-page booklet. The booklet provides specific guidance on how products can help architects earn LEED credits for projects meeting ASTM E 2129 standards for sustainable buildings.

Included in the product offerings is the company’s Oceans of Color line of spectrally selective glasses. Spectrally selective products have a light to solar gain ration of 1.25 or better, as defined by the U.S. Department of Energy.

Wausau Offers Curtainwall and Window Wall Brochure
Wausau, Wis.-based Wausau Window and Wall Systems® has published a new brochure that showcases its full range of curtainwall and window wall products.

According to Wausau, its curtainwall systems meet the needs of multi-story buildings and low-rise projects.

The systems are available with a variety of thermal barriers, glazing systems and color-matched anodic or organic coatings.

3M™ Offers Free Design Guide for Architectural metal Panel Assembly 
Now offered from St. Paul, Minn.-based 3M Company is a new 12-page design guide that presents case studies  on how its VHB™ tapes are used in assembling architectural metal panels. The guide is illustrated with photos and schematics of global construction applications such as the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles and the Burj Al Arab Hotel in Dubai, United Emirate. Also included is technical information that details construction test data, which illustrates the high holding power of the tapes and long-term reliability, including results from wind load structural tests and hurricane, impact and pressure cycling tests.

The company says the VHB tapes are acrylic foam pressure sensitive adhesives that bond on contact with no curing time or fixturing for fast assembly of cladding, column covers, curtainwall panels, ceiling systems, canopies, decorative metal trim and more. 3M adds that no screws or welds are needed, so fastening is virtually invisible.
