Summer Days

Remember your trip to Disneyland as a kid? What about your first job? Summer time is a time of memories—creating new ones and remembering the old. Read on to see some of our readers’ funniest and nicest summer stories.

Joapessoa, North Brazil "The last time I went to Brazil was in 2001, when my family went to Joaopessoa, North Brazil. Things are so cheap there it’s unbelievable. We went every night to the best restaurants in the city and you just can’t spend money fast enough. I’m talking about 10 people going out for lobster, steak, whatever, and it never went over $80. It was my whole family, including my wife Saionara and my sons, Kevin, 5, and Gabriel, 7, and two other families from [Fort Lauderdale, Fla.]. Our hotel was right on the beach, and at night the waves would splash in our windows as the tide would come up. During the day, you can sit on the beach, you can sit and people will come by selling you anything you can imagine—appetizers, alcohol, beer, corn-on-the-cob, fresh shrimp and Popsicles and ice cream for the kids. They cook the fish on a fire right in front of you. It was a great trip and we hope to go back next year."

We used to take the kids in a motor home four hours up to Lake Winnipesaukee in New Hampshire, and the people from New Hampshire would come down to Rhode Island to Narragansett Bay. We all wanted something different, but it was fun.
