Dow Automotive Appoints New Leader
Dow Automotive has appointed a new leader at the Auburn Hills global headquarters.
Bernie Defreitas is now product market manager for North American Glass and Plastic Bonding, Small Packaging within Dow Automotive. He is responsible for the implementation of the business strategy and management of financial results for this business group that extends Dow Automotive glass bonding and structural adhesive expertise into the automotive aftermarket. Defreitas joined Dow in 1990 and has held a variety of positions in sales, market development and sales/marketing education. In his most recent position as North American sales education leader, he established sales best practices and implemented them across Dow’s portfolio of businesses. Defreitas holds a Bachelor of Science degree in marketing and finance from McMaster University in Canada.

Safelite VP Marketing Leaves, Replacement Named

Denise Klapper, vice president of marketing, has left Safelite Glass Corp. for a job with a company outside the industry. She had been with the Columbus, Ohio based company for more than ten years.

Mark Placenti has been named as her replacement. Placenti joins Safelite from Columbus, Ohio-based Fahlgren Advertising. His responsibilities include advertising, public relations, communications along with consumer, client and Web marketing. He has previously held positions with The Circle K Company, SBC Advertising and Whole Brain Films.

Catherine Topping
Catherine Topping, wife of Wes Topping, president of the U.S. branch of Belron Inc., passed away on Sunday, October 4, 2005. She was 65. She is survived by her husband and two children, Catherine Bright and Lee Topping, as well as two grandchildren and a brother.
