Independent’s Day: An IGA Viewpoint
We’ll See You There
by Dave Zoldowski

One of the most important services the Independent Glass Association (IGA) offers is the educational and networking opportunities and, of those, the most significant of these is at the IGA’s annual conference, scheduled for May 17-19 in Las Vegas.

Timely Topics
The question then may arise, what’s left to learn? Plenty. Along with topics such as “State Farms O&A Defined” and “On Hold Forever? Deciphering and Understanding the Scripts TPAs and Insurers Use,” the conference will also offer seminars addressing some of the most recent changes facing the industry. These include “Belron 101: Understandi status of the Chicago Group’s work at changing the way the industry handles pricing. For a complete list of the seminars, visit www.glassexpos.com/igaseminars.php.

Also available at this year’s show are a keynote address by consumer safety advocate Ralph Nader as well as the special opportunity to the IGA membership for a private breakfast and book signing with Mr. Nader.

So long as the industry is changing, there will be plenty of things to learn and reasons for independents to come together and learn from one another.

Talk It Out
This is also the time for IGA members to get to meet the Board of Directors and hear first-hand what’s going on with the association. The association is experiencing some rapid growth right now, particularly with respect to the services it offers. This conference allows members to find out more about the association and its future but also to get to know those of us who are trying to shape the future of the association. It’s a time when you can tell us if we’re heading in the right direction or not and let us know what you’d like to see the association do in the future, tell us what really matters to you.

Of course, we’re not the only people you may want to chat with at the conference. As has been the case for several years now, the Spring Auto Glass Show™ accompanies the IGA conference. This year, the event is being co-located with the Americas Glass Showcase and in attendance will be many distributors and other vendors with whom you may or may not already do business.

Be There or Be Square
At the very least, you have networking opportunities like none before and, as we all know, the successful businessperson knows how to network. At the event will be many noted industry leaders with whom you can bounce ideas and suggestions off, such as attorney Chuck Lloyd from Livgard and Ribuse and AGRSS credentialing committee chair Carl Tompkins of SIKA Industries. State Farm representatives Bob Bischoff and Melissa Kern will be around to provide valuable insight.

What’s most important is that the whole event, from beginning to end, should provide everyone participating with insight—into how other companies work, how others think and how we can work together to make a future for ourselves and each other. For registration information, visit www.glassexpos.com/iga.php.
