life beyond the auto glass business

Novus Franchise Owner Does It All

THERE WAS A TIME WHEN Paul Torgerson of Novus Auto Glass in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, never dreamt he’d ever compete in a triathlon. But now, at age 50, he’s spent the last 25 years doing just that in his spare time and has competed in a total of 15 local contests.

“I watched the first one years ago and thought, ‘those guys are crazy,’ and then it kind of calls you,” he says.

Triathlons are competitions that consist of swimming, cycling and running over various distances.

“I enjoy biking and swimming and running and it’s a great way to stay in good health and good shape and be mentally alert,” Torgy says.

After many years of competing in triathlons, which consist of various periods of swimming, cycling and running, Torgerson decided to take his extreme nature just a step further. Last year, he competed in the Ironman Triathlon, which consists of a 2.4-mile swim, a 112-mile cycling portion and a 26.2-mile marathon run.

Not only was his goal to compete—but also to finish the competition in 11 of the 12 hours allotted. He did just that and more—he finished in ten.

Torgerson and his wife, Kim, have been married for 25 years. They have two children, Ashley, 23, and Levi, 17.

In addition to competing in triathlons, in his spare time, Torgerson enjoys fly-fishing, golfing and coaching his daughter in softball.
