Always wear proper eye and hand protection while working on the vehicle. Inform the vehicle owner of the cure time and any other additional precautions before installation. Always return the vehicle to manufacturer’s specifications. Protect all interior and exterior portions of the vehicle to prevent any damage.

1. Getting Started:
For vehicle and glass preparations please refer to AGRSS/ANSI 002-2002 as well as your adhesive manufacturer’s recommendations. Inspect the windshield for defects and any contamination that may compromise the bonding of the adhesive. Also look for any distortion, scratches or defects on the glass or moulding. Make sure to test the rain sensor before removal.

Remove the rearview mirror by gently sliding the mirror cover apart to access the electrical plug and disconnect it carefully. Tilt the mirror upward, loosen the set screw and slide the mirror upward off of the bracket. If the vehicle is equipped with a moisture sensor, remove it also. To remove the A-pillar covers start at the top and work your way down releasing the clips. Unplug the speaker and set the cover on a clean surface. Keep in mind, the tether clip at the top must be replaced upon removal. Moving to the outside of the vehicle, remove the wiper nut covers and remove the wiper nuts, noting which is the driver’s side and which is the passenger’s side. To remove the cowl panels, first remove the eight panel clips and four retainers. Next, remove the weatherstrip, front compartment sight shields from both sides and the front cowl extension.

2. Removal:
For the sides and top of the windshield, a cold knife or power tool can be used, as can wire. For the bottom, a power tool or wire can be used. Keep in mind that there is no one correct method of removal. The technician should use the tool with which he feels most comfortable and the one that achieves a safe removal, both for the vehicle and the technician.

3. Preparation:
Trim the existing urethane bead, leaving it 1 to 2 millimeters (mm) in height. Use your adhesive manufacturer’s pinchweld primer to prime all scratches that may exist and allow for proper drying according to your adhesive manufacturer’s recommendations (G.M. 3651G). Please note that only the full-cut method is permitted by the AGRSS/ANSI 002-2002 Standard.

4. Placement:
Dry-fit the new windshield and mark it properly to ensure the correct setting procedure. Prepare the windshield according to your adhesive manufacturer’s recommendations, and then apply the adhesive and install the windshield. GM recommends using a tip for the urethane that is cut at a 60-degree angle and is 14 mm wide and tall. Make sure the deck height is correct and the markings on the windshield line up with those that were applied on the body during the dry set. Torque the wiper arm nuts at 20 Newton meters or 17 pounds per inch.

5. Finishing Touches:
Install the cowl, wipers and mirror in reverse order. Be sure to check the rain sensor, if equipped, and wiper operation before returning the vehicle to the owner. Check the A-pillar speakers for sound and check the door weatherstrip. Check for any leaks and be sure to inform the vehicle owner of the safe drive-away time according to the adhesive manufacturer. Also be sure to record all lot numbers from the adhesive, VIN number and primers, as well as the DOT number from the windshield.
