WDMA Names New Director of Code Compliance
Michael Fischer, formerly technical director for the National Sunroom Association (NSA), has
been named director of Codes and Regulatory Compliance for the Window & Door Manufacturers Association (WDMA), located in Des Plaines, Ill. Fischer’s first task will be to help industry members comply with building code provisions from the International Code Council, a combination of three model code entities that will merge in January 2003.
In addition to working with the code groups, Fischer will serve as liaison to the door and window division’s building codes and regulatory committees. He will help members develop WDMA’s overall code strategy.
Fischer’s technical career began in the overhead-door industry in 1982. Following a sales representative position with Owens Corning’s fabrication division and as building code program manager for Clopay Building Products, he moved to the NSA in 1999. He helped spearhead the creation of product standards for sunroom additions and the successful adoption of a variety of code proposals into the international codes.
