HOPPE Introduces Solid Brass Handle
HOPPE HOPPE North America of Fort Atkinson, Wis., is now offering four new swing door handle sets in various finishes: the M156/216N Athinai, M1020/374N Toronto, M1603/216N or M16003/ 374N Rodos. The solid brass forging offers high strength, intensity and durability as well as a smooth, blemish-free surface on each item, said the company.

In addition to the new swing handle sets, the company is still offering its solid brass handle sets in polished brass, antique brass, white, polished chrome, brushed chrome, matte black and oil-brushed, including handle extensions to adapt to a variety of window treatments.

Johnson Hardware Introduces New Privacy Lock
JOHNSON Johnson Hardware of Elkhart, Ind., recently introduced a pocket door privacy lock. The easily adjusted Johnson pocket door locks latch automatically when closed, bringing the added benefit of closing the door completely the first-time without bouncing, said the company.

Alum-A-Pole Offers Patented Coils
ALUM Alum-A-Pole Corp. of Scranton, Pa., recently introduced the first vinyl-grained coil. Having the same qualities as vinyl siding, this patented grained coil is scratch-resistant and dent-resistant, said the company. This material can be bent back and forth many times without a problem. For example, porch columns can be bent in one piece and then snapped around the column without creases, said the company.

E&R System Technik Offers Mini-Coping Station
E&R System Technik of Springfield, Mass., has introduced the new Stegherr KF-mini coping 
station. With the KF-mini, coping is done with a simple manual sliding operation. The machine table slides against the fixed left- and right-fence stops, and two high-speed milling spindles—rotating in opposite directions—cut the stock.

Roto Frank Introduces New Handle
Roto Frank of America, based in Chester, Conn., recently introduced its new LH08 handle. Featuring an updated design, the LH08, which is available in single-point and multi-point configurations, offers an aesthetically pleasing low-profile appearance, said the company.

The single-point version comes assembled with a locking pin to provide smooth, high-performance operation, while the multi-point version integrates fully with the progressive action locking system.

LCS Offers Lift Handle
LCS LCS Precision Molding recently introduced the LCSR2466 lift handle. Oversized and overweight window and door units cause back strain, pinched fingers and damaged units. The LCSR2466 lift handle is a solution that enables a more secure grip on these oversized and overweight units. These lift handles are rated from 400 pounds and are screwed to side jambs to be used as a temporary handle, making a more stable handhold on units when loading trucks and moving units around, said the company.

Dow Corning Offers Joint Sealant
Dow Corning of Midland, Mich., recently added a new silicone joint sealant with proprietary stain-resistant technology to its line of weatherproofing products in North America. The one-component material delivers proven stain-resistant technology, without the need to meter and mix a two-part formulation, said the company.

Dow Corning® 991 silicone high-performance sealant is a ready-to-use version of the company’s patented, two-component Dow Corning 756 high-performance silicone building sealant. According to the company, the product has a ten-year track record of success as a stain-resistant weatherproofing sealant in Europe and Asia.

National Starch & Chemical “Purfects” Glazing
PERFECT GLAZE National Starch & Chemical Co. of Bridgewater, N.J., has a new bedding system available that it says enables window manufacturers to bond glass to vinyl and wood 
sashes with great strength and little labor. The PURFECT-GLAZE™ adhesive system includes hot-melt application equipment and the company’s specialty adhesive.

The system is based on polyurethane reactive hot-melt technology. In addition, the adhesive has been subjected to a variety of tests including ultraviolet exposure, accelerated weathering, performance under wide temperatures and humidity and air-water structural testing, according to the company.

OSI Offers New Acrylic Urethane Sealant
OSI Sealants Inc. of Mentor, Ohio, offers the ProSeries® acrylic urethane sealant, a high-performance urethane formula for the window industry, which the company says provides better adhesion, flexibility and durability than most sealants.

H2U acrylic urethane sealant provides the durability of a urethane with the ease-of-use and easy water clean up of an acrylic. It has superior adhesion and simple extrusion when applied in temperatures ranging from 40 degrees to 100 degrees Fahrenheit.

Lignomat USA Offers Moisture Meter
LIGNOMAT Lignomat USA Ltd. of Portland, Ore., offers pin and pinless meters for many different applications. Most popular meters from Lignomat are the pin meter, mini-Ligno DX/C, and pinless meter, mini-Scanner L.

The company also offers an in-line moisture detector for quality control in any industrial application and an advanced wireless computer kiln control system.

Win!Local Helps Businesses Predict Market Future

Window and door manufacturers can implement the software in several ways: as a stand-alone engineering software module, integrated into the WoodWare System production software or as an integration option to existing MRP/ERP software 

GED Introduces Two-Tone Muntins
Glass Equipment Development (GED) Inc. of Twinsburg, Ohio, introduces its patent-pending product and process to produce two-tone muntins. Currently, three oak patterns and one cherry are available. According to the company, all patterns offer stunning visual designs of wood grains never before available.

GED adds that the new material offers fabricators another way to differentiate their product offerings, and that the product is competitively priced with other two-tone solutions on the market. 
GED president Ron Auletta adds that manufacturers using traditional muntin fabrication methods can purchase muntin lineals directly from Hygrade. “GED saw an opportunity for fabricators of all sizes to take advantage of this breakthrough material,” he said. “Our exclusive partnership with Hygrade allows fabricators to produce their own contour grids or colonial lineals on GED equipment, or to buy lineals directly from Hygrade.” 

Venture Tape Rolls Out New Coating Line
Venture Tape Corp. of Rockland, Mass., revealed its installed custom-built coating line and fully auto-mated slitting equipment recently. Enabling the company to nearly double production, the firm expects to become a major leader in the pressure-sensitive tape market. 

According to the company, the new coating line is fast, versatile and accurate. The line is monitored by specialized, sophisticated software that provides continuous, real-time read outs on all specifications and production indices and also includes a specially designed oven capable of fast run times and high drying and energy efficiency. “With the addition of this innovative technology, we are able to compete much more aggressively in the large commercial and industrial markets,” said Venture president Lew Cohen.

“Best New Publication of the Year”
Door & Window Maker (DWM) magazine was recently presented with the prestigious American Society of Business Publication Editors' (ASBPE) regional award for Best New Publication at the regional awards dinner in Boston on June 10, 2002. 

"We are so pleased to receive this award," said Tara Taffera, publisher of Door & Window Maker. "Our whole staff put a great deal of work into this venture so it is nice to see our efforts be recognized." 

The Eastern region is one of the most competitive regions with entrants from Washington, D.C., and New York competing with one another, as well as with magazines from 14 other states.
