AEC Management Conference Gave Global Perspective

AEC MGTCONF The Aluminum Extruders Council (AEC) held its annual management conference in Chicago on September 17-19, 2002. This conference offered more than 200 participants a global perspective on the aluminum industry with education, information and networking events geared toward technical and managerial personnel in the aluminum extrusion industry.
The conference general sessions included an industry outlook from Jim Southwood, president of Commodity Metals Management Exchange. In his speech, Southwood reported that the aluminum extrusion market has been hurt worse than other aluminum markets—down 2.7 percent worldwide for 2001. According to Southwood, a 3-percent increase in aluminum consumption is expected for 2002.

Informative focus sessions covered a wide variety of topics presented in four tracks that were directed toward specific subject areas. Participants chose to attend up to three of 12 sessions that included such topics as market development, die design and management, operations and finishing and general management issues.

The AEC will also soon be taking reservations for its Eighth International Annual Extrusion Technology Seminar and Exposition (ET ’04), which will be held May 18-21, 2004, in Orlando, Fla., at the Gaylord Palms Orlando Resort & Convention Center.

Nearly 2,000 aluminum extrusion professionals are expected to attend the premier event that attracts managers, engineers, metallurgists, academics and operation specialists from around the world, said exposition officials.

NFRC Changes Meeting Schedule
NFRC LOGO The NFRC is going to change the way it meets in 2003, by eliminating one meeting and possibly going international, said the National Fenestration Rating Council in the recent issue of its newsletter. Although the dates and places are not final, NFRC plans to hold two task group meetings, one during the first three months of the year and one during the last three months of the year. Candidates for the early meeting include Chicago and Dallas, according to the association.

The NFRC will not hold two policy meetings in the spring and fall. Instead the organization will hold only one annual meeting in the late spring or early summer.
