Those associated with the millwork industry, including window and door manufacturers, will want to attend the upcoming National Sash and Door Jobbers (NSDJA) Convention. The 40th annual event will be held at the Orange County Convention Center October 12-16 in Orlando, Fla.

If you plan on attending, be sure to bring your walking shoes as the convention will take up more than 187,000 square feet of exhibit space. Exhibitors will include companies in the window and door industry, such as Friedman Corp., Imperial Products, Marley Mouldings and Ritescreen. The NSDJA website also lists extensive information related to the show including an extensive spouse program and how to make hotel and other travel reservations. The Orlando World Center Marriott hotel is the official hotel for the contention.

PROFRAME® Receives Florida’s Seal of Approval

Royal Mouldings Limited, formerly Marley Mouldings, of Marion, Va., has received NOA number 02-0408.05 Miami-Dade County Florida expiration date April 3, 2008 acceptance for its Proframe® exterior entrance and patio door system.

According to the company, Royal Mouldings’ Proframe™ entrance and patio door system is the industry’s only no-rot, virtually maintenance-free door system with an all cellular vinyl and composite entry frame. What makes the system unique is that it is waterproof from the top to the bottom of the frame, without any wood construction. The system is painted and ready to stain for steel and fiberglass doors, as well as prefinished woodgrain oak and mahogany colors to match finished fiberglass, wood and steel doors.

Proframe is available in lineal or prepackaged kits, and the cellular vinyl is combined with a composite post-treated filler core that further strengthens the product, according to the company.

If your business sells items requiring special calculations for pricing, stop by the booth of Deerfield, Ill.’s Friedman Corp. to view its POWERBids Plus system. According to the company, the system prices items that are sold by the square foot, lineal foot, lineal inch, united inch, per 100/1000 as well as pints, quarts, etc.

The company adds that strong job management features allow users to search easily for quotes and orders. POWERBids Plus allows customers to adjust pricing easily with global changes and it can be used to generate printed copies of price books.

Builders Automation Makes Work Easier

Looking for automated equipment for the manufacturing of doors? Then stop by the booth of Builders Automation of Largo, Fla. The company is unveiling its 996E pre-hung door machine with 1550 hinge applicators which may also be ordered with optional devices to pre-drill screw holes prior to hinge applications.
The pre-drill units are mounted in a position to allow hinge pocket routing and hinge application and will simultaneously drill pilot holes for screw application, according to the company. They pivot to remain out of the way while routing, position automatically for drilling, and then retract again after the hinge application is completed.

“As raw materials and door construction change, adaptability is important.
Some of our customers have noticed inconsistencies—particularly puckering in
MDF doors—that make pre-drilling a desirable step in the manufacturing process,” said Wolfgang Schusser, president of Builders Automation. “We’ve been listening and learning from the people who use our equipment—adapting and adjusting as necessary to meet their particular needs.”

The 996E handles either 6 foot, 8-inch doors or 8 foot doors up to 4 feet wide. The machine will mortise all three or four hinge pockets (as selected) simultaneously when equipped with the same number of hinge routers. And with the addition of hinge applicators, up to four hinges will be screwed onto the door.

According to the company, one of the product’s unique features is its locator tab that aligns perfectly thus preventing air and water infiltration. According to the company, the frame pieces literally “snap and grab” together resulting in a fast and hassle-free installation.

The SmartFrame has a water-tight compression seal, and is made of an advanced co-polymer that is ultraviolet resistant. The company adds that the framing material has better paint adhesion than similar products and stronger resistance to yellowing.

“The SmartFrame press literally grabs the door and installs the frame efficiently. Don’t Panic; CRL has the Answer

C.R. Laurence Co. Inc. of Los Angeles, has introduced the CRL glass door panic and deadbolt handles for both single and double ½-inch or ¾-inch tempered glass doors.

“These new panic and deadbolt handles are designed to allow maximum view and present a contemporary look to tempered glass doors,” said John Geukens, CRL product manager. “They provide an economical means to satisfy both security and life safety requirements while adding to the aesthetics of the entrance.”

The handles are available in brushed or polished stainless steel and polished brass. They are ready to install on 36- and 48-inch wide doors, ranging in height from 90- to 102 inches, according to the company. Door stops, electric strikes and keyed access devices to go along with the doors are also available.

New Technology from Woodware Systems

WoodWare Systems of Memphis, Tenn., is introducing its WoodWare Web Modules at the NSDJA Convention. According to the company, distributors and manufacturers using the system will be able to allow their customers to check orders, invoices, and more over the Internet.
