3M Says Adhesive System Increases Production

Bridgewater Wholesalers Inc. (BWI) in Branchburg, N.J., says it has increased door production immensely after switching to the 3M Jet-Weld Thermoset Adhesive System. BWI reports an increase from 75 custom doors per week to 300 per week.

The Jet-Weld Thermoset Adhesive System is a self-contained system that combines the speed of a hot-melt adhesive and bond strength associated with a two-part structural adhesive, according to 3M.

At Bridgewater the Jet-Weld System replaced white glue for bonding 1-1/8 inches square fir reblock strips between hardboard door panels. The Jet-Weld adhesive cartridge is inserted and heated in the 3M Jet-Weld II Applicator. A bead of adhesive is then applied at 250 degrees F to the strip and hardens quickly as it cools. Clamping time on the door is only five minutes compared to five hours with the white glue.

A & S Enterprises of Ocean Shores, Wash., has introduced the regular and parallel arm door closer template to be used with any model or brand of door closer products. The templates, which have regular and parallel arm layouts on both sides, are made of LEXAN plastic. They can be placed on top of a door when the door is closed, and are good for conditions where doors are close to ceilings, such as 9-foot doors with 9-foot ceiling areas, according to the company.

A & S has also introduced door lock templates for use on any type of door and for positioning on any type of door swing. The templates are lightweight, easy to store, and can be used for any lock type.

According to the company, the free-standing unit has a one piece, fully welded frame and can handle sheets up to 5 by 10 feet. It cuts perfect edges on particleboard, acrylic, composites, plastic and non-ferrous metal panels to an accuracy of 1/10 mm.

DTI Offers Automatic Feed Screwdriver

Design Tool Inc. (DTI) of Conover, N.C., offers the DTI 5000 automatic feed screwdriver systems, which offers a barrel design thus the operator cannot drive screws faster than the machine will deliver them to the gun. This design also allows for a product that is smaller and lighter than comparable machines, according to the company.

DTI adds that the uniqueness of the patented feed mechanism makes the machine less likely to experience mechanical failure. The machine shuts off automatically if the unit is not cycled for 7-8 seconds and restarts when the operator drives another screw.
