APPOINTMENTS
Pilkington Announces Building Products Appointments
Pilkington North America has announced that Laurie Kruger has returned to Australia after three and a half years as Pilkington’s president, building products, North America. Kruger has been appointed president, building products and group country manager, Australasia.
Prior to his North American role, Kruger held various senior management positions in both the building products and automotive businesses in Australia.
In turn, Richard Altman has been appointed president, building products, North America. Altman is currently plant manager of the company’s Rossford, Ohio, facility and was previously vice president, operations support, for building products in North America.
Mispagel Appointed Bystronic Regional Sales Manager
Bystronic Inc. of Hauppauge, N.Y., has announced the appointment of Dave Mispagel as its new Western regional sales manager. Mispagel is a veteran of more than 25 years in the glass industry, having held sales and management positions with several of the West Coast’s leading manufacturing and fabrication companies since beginning his career in 1979.
In his new position, Mispagel will oversee all Bystronic sales and service operations in a territory that covers California, Arizona, Colorado, Utah, Nevada and New Mexico. Across this broad geographic base he will be responsible for ensuring the continued success of Bystronic customers with advanced systems and services for glass processing that provide glass users with safety and comfort.
Cardinal Glass Industries Announces Organizational Changes
Roger O’Shaughnessy, president and chief executive officer of Cardinal Glass Industries in Eden Prairie, Minn., has announced a number of organizational changes within the company. According to O’Shaughnessy, the changes are designed to strengthen the company well into the future.
Under the organization’s new structure, each of Cardinal’s six subsidiaries will be operated as individual companies, and each president will operate in separate facilities in order to effectively delegate plant management. New plant managers have also been named at each facility.
The new subsidiary presidents are:
• Eric Rapp, Cardinal IG Company;
• Bob Bond, Cardinal CG Company;
• Steve Nelson, Cardinal Pacific;
• Renato Lizardo, Cardinal LG Company; and
• Pat Watson, Cardinal FG and FG Minerals.

LAMATEK Promotes Kobelka to Sales Manager
LAMATEK of West Deptford, N.J., has promoted Melisa Kobelka to the position of fenestration sales manager.
Kobelka joined LAMATEK more than three years ago as fenestration account manager and has been instrumental in the growth of that division. In her new position, she will be responsible for the management and administration of a 22-person independent sales force and the inside sales department responsible for all door and window products.
“Melisa’s dedication and professionalism has brought her tremendous success. This is a well-deserved promotion and we look forward to the contributions that she will make to LAMATEK as she continues to lead her sales team in exceeding customer expectations,” said Laura Basara, director of sales and marketing.

Duguay Joins INEX Spacer as Distribution Sales Manager
Robert Duguay has joined INEX Spacer Inc. as distributor sales manager. In this capacity, Duguay will be responsible for sales in Canada of the company’s spacers as well as related products and equipment from its distribution subsidiary, Thermo Distribution.
Based in the company’s home office in Varennes, Quebec, Duguay will oversee a sales staff whose territories cover the entire country. In addition, he will play a key role in expanding the market for Thermo Distribution to include the United States, according to company information.
Duguay has previously held positions in sales, procurement, operations and management, covering many facets of the glass industry. Most recently he was a territory manager with Guardian Industries.

Loewen VP Segal Named One of Canada’s Top 40 Under 40™
Stephen Segal, vice president marketing and sales for Loewen of Steinbach, Manitoba, Canada, has been named one of Canada’s Top 40 Under 40™. Segal was presented his award at a gala in Toronto on May 2, 2006.
Segal began his career at Loewen in 2003 as chief information officer. Since that time, he has led the launch of the current Loewen brand that has elevated Loewen’s market positioning, resulting in year-over-year revenue growth. The success of the Loewen brand and marketing strategy led Segal to be named vice president marketing and sales in 2005.
Segal is also an internationally-recognized expert in the field of product lifecycle management (PLM). Under his direction, Loewen received the 2005 global COE PLM Enterprise of the Year award. Segal has been the keynote speaker at major industry events and has been interviewed and published in numerous newspapers and magazines.
RETIREMENTS
43-Year Industry Veteran Retires
Ed Burns, sales representative for Precision Entry and Sugarcreek Industries, retired on April 28 following a 48-year career in the building industry.
After graduating from Penn State University in 1963 with an associates degree in engineering, Ed spent two years at Bell Laboratories. He then joined his family’s construction business where he worked until 1977. For the next ten years, Ed served as sales representative for a general supply company, and then in 1987 he joined Hess Manufacturing as sales representative. In 2001, he joined the team at Precision Entry and Sugarcreek Industries serving as regional sales representative in Western Pennsylvania and Western New York.
“As I look back on Ed Burns’ career, I fondly remember his professionalism and consistency,” said Willis Schlabach, vice president of sales and marketing, Precision. “He excelled at building relationships and values, and he truly made a difference. May Ed’s example challenge each of us to run the race well.”
Key Communications Inc. Promotes Two
Key Communications Inc., publisher of Door and Window Manufacturer (DWM) and other magazines, has named two new vice presidents of the company.
Tara Taffera has been named vice president of editorial services. She will oversee the development of new editorial services and the expansion of current ones. She will also continue to serve in her role as publisher of DWM magazine.
Holly Biller has been named vice president of information services. In her new position, Biller will be responsible for continued development of Key’s web presence, including www.dwmmag.com, along with marketing and other customer services.
Taffera has been an employee for eight years. She has served as editor of Window Film magazine, AGRR magazine and USGlass. She has led the development and record growth of DWM magazine.
Biller has been with Key Communications for more than ten years. She has served in positions of increasing responsibility and has been instrumental in the development of Key’s online services among other things.
