Introducing....new products

StaySafe Provides Protection from Coastal Conditions
StaySafe™ impact-resistant products from Peachtree® Doors and Windows of Gainesville, Ga., include aluminum-clad outswing patio doors, double-hungs, casements and direct set/picture windows. New to the StaySafe product line for 2006 are single-hung units in premium vinyl.

These units feature low-maintenance aluminum-clad exteriors available in virtually any color, and interior wood options of standard pine or hardwood species of oak, mahogany, maple or cherry, according to the company.

StaySafe products have at their core a strong layer of polyvinyl butyral that is bonded between two lites of glass. The laminated interlayer is designed to hold up to extreme forces, even if the outer layers of glass break. The laminated glass also blocks furniture-fading UV rays and provides a sound barrier.

ICA Group’s Water-Based Coatings for Exterior Frames
ICA Group of Civitanova Marche, Italy, has introduced three new water-based wood coatings for external frames and shutters: IM216UC, IM121SC and LA321IEC.

IM216UC is a water-based uniform monocomponent colored impregnating agent specifically designed for application to wooden products for outdoor use, such as doors, windows, shutters and garages. This ready-to-use product is suitable for most types of wood and can be used on untreated wood. ICA’s impregnating agent is designed to make it easy to achieve perfectly uniform color. It is available in 12 colors.

IM121SC is a water-based monocomponent colored impregnating agent specially designed to avoid the removal of the wood fiber in coniferous woods and the raising of the grain. Given sufficient preparation of the untreated wood, IM121SC can be applied without sanding.

LA321IEC is a water-based extra-coverage monocomponent transparent matt top coat designed for two-coat coating cycles on frames and shutters.

The product is ready-to-use and suitable for all types of wood that have been treated with impregnating agents, intermediates and water-based base coats. It may be applied in a maximum quantity of 300 microns of liquid film in a single coat. LA321IEC offers a high level of dry residue, transparency, UV filtration, coverage and resistance to the elements. In addition, it avoids the formation of micro-bubbles of trapped air in the applied film, reduces over-spray and resists blocking.

Winkhaus Trim Sets Feature New PVD Finishes
Winkhaus North America Inc. of Whitewater, Wis., has developed new finishes for its trim sets. The unique lifetime PVD finishes are designed to resist a change in hardware appearance caused over time by corrosion. The finishes include bright brass, ultra steel and bronze PVD. According to information from the company, the PVD bronze finish, which Winkhaus says is an industry first, offers the appearance of new, oil-rubbed bronze, but is maintenance-free and will not wear or change color.

The company’s trim sets also feature an escutcheon plate that is thicker, taller and wider than comparable models, and made of materials such as solid brass, not zinc. Company officials say that the trim set handles are well-crafted and elegantly designed, while the cylinders are sleek, clean and easy to install.

Tecton Introduces Fiberglass Entry Door
Tecton Products LLC introduced what it says is the first residential fiberglass entry door framing system. Tecton has designed a maintenance free, clean line doorframe that it says complements a wide array of door slabs.

“Thanks to our patented Durion acrylic finish and our structural fiberglass core, these doorframes will retain the crisp look of freshly painted wood for years to come,” says president John Jambois.

The company adds that the frame is resistant to mold and insects, and it won’t warp since fiberglass is temperature stable.

ICT Produces Variety of OEM Door Components

OEM manufacturer Integrated Composite Technologies Inc. (ICT) of Montezuma, Ga., produces a wide range of wood plastic composite (WPC) components for the door and window industry.

The close tolerances ICT is able to hold helps ensure that components fit properly, according to the company. The WPCs feature low water absorption and offer resistance to decay, rot and insect damage. In addition, the company says the composites are sustainable and renewable because they are made from 100-percent recycled wood flour and plastic resin.

No special tools are required to work the components. Utilizing color through embossing processes, WPCs can be produced to match existing components. With all the options made possible by the wide variety of color additives, texture finishes and finishing treatments, WPC door and window components are infinitely customizable, according to the company.

Additionally, they may be painted or stained for even more finishing options.

Sash Systems Introduces Automated Glazier
Sash Systems’ automated glazier features a servo-motion control system that automatically applies a consistent amount of material at speeds up to 30 inches per second utilizing a high-pressure fluid metering system. The efficiency of this automated design allows production rates to increase while assuring that the highest quality standards are maintained when producing the SashLite product, according to information from the company. The combination of the machine’s heavy-duty construction, innovative engineering and quality controls results in a valuable material dispensing system.

HOPPE Spotlights Multipoint Sliding Door Hardware

HOPPE North America Inc. of Fort Atkinson, Wis., is offering its new multipoint sliding door locking hardware. This 300 series stainless steel sliding door gear has two locking points, which allows for optimum contact with the jamb.

The retractable hooks create a clean look on the door and jamb when open and another device prevents the retractable hooks from accidentally firing and potentially damaging the hardware. The manual locking operations eliminates inadvertent locking of the door. The hardware is backed with a limited lifetime mechanical warranty.

The hardware is available in the company’s two newest finishes, Satin Nickel and Antique Nickel. Both of these new finishes are part of the Resista® collection, which protects against tarnishing, peeling and cracking.
