Crystal Windows Introduces New Metal Paint Finish

Crystal Window & Door Systems in Flushing, N.Y., recently introduced an aluminum finish option for its aluminum windows, sliding and terrace doors as an alternative to traditional anodization. The new finish is a powder coat paint that offers the appearance of clear anodized aluminum, with environmental, cost and other benefits.“

Anodization gives a very high-tech look that many upscale properties seek,” says Steve Chen, executive vice president at Crystal. “Our alternative finish replicates the appearance of clear anodized aluminum and offers many advantages, without the drawbacks associated with the environmentally harsh anodization process. Offering this alternative to clear anodized aluminum is just one of the many environmentally responsible actions Crystal is taking to promote a ‘green’ future for all.”

Linetec Coating is Environmental and Frosty
Wausau, Wis.-based Linetec has changed the anodize etch process from a traditional, caustic etch to a more environmentally friendly, acid etch process. In addition to its green attributes, company officials say the acid etch creates an aesthetically appealing, “frosty” matte finish that helps hide small defects, such as die lines, flow lines, minor corrosion and scratches, which may occur on the aluminum surface of architectural products.

“We’ve been researching this newer etching technology for some time and are excited to be one of the first companies to bring this process to market,” says Linetec’s Andy Joswiak, vice president of operations. “Although neither traditional nor acid etch removes irregularities in the aluminum, acid etch does a better job of concealing them. This gives the material a better aesthetic finish on both primary aluminum and secondary (recycled) billet.”
