Survey Shows Cost of Windows Remains Steady in Single-Family
Construction
The National
Association of Homebuilders (NAHB) has published its latest construction
cost survey. According to the surveydata, while the average price
of a single-family home has dropped over the last two years, the share
of that price, which goes to construction cost and finished lot cost,
has not changed significantly.
The survey also takes a look at how the cost of building materials, including
doors and windows, has changed. It notes that the average cost for windows
is $6,148 (3.3 percent), while the average cost of exterior doors is $2,150
(1.2 percent).
The average price of a new single-family home, according to the survey,
was $310,619, down from $377,624 in 2009. In 2011, the cost of constructionaccounted
for nearly 60 percent of the final sales price of an average home, while
the cost of the finished lot accounted for 22 percent.
