WMA Updates Its Rating System for Doors

The World Millwork Alliance (WMA) is revising a rule in order to rate doors more effectively. It will formally be known as “WMA Revision BSR/AMD 100-201x, Structural Performance Ratings of Side-Hinged Exterior Door Systems and Procedures for Component Substitution (revision of ANSI/AMD 100-2013)” (or AMD 100 for short).

The rule will provide door pre-hangers and distributors a way to test and rate the structural performance of a side-hinged exterior door system, and qualify components for substitution in that rated system. (WMA’s previous name was the Association of Millwork Distributors, or AMD.)

“This revision cycle is limited in scope to the revisions herein proposed; it does not include a review of the entire document,” a WMA statement reads.

Changes will be made on pages 32-37 of the document.

Comments regarding the changes for the revision cycle were due in late June.

GPI Millworks
Gets Simply Elegant

The Simply Elegant retractable screen by GPI Millworks has been expanded to accommodate both in-swing and out-swing for single or double doors.

According to the company, inventory requirements are reduced by utilizing standard heights with the frame width profiles clearly marked for cutting down to suit both standard and custom door widths.

This newly redesigned version of the retractable screen features a stronger and more stable frame construction, the company says. Fixture points are in the frame and retractable cartridge, and all corners of the unit are fastened prior to installation.

A monorail-style track incorporates hidden support blocks for added strength. The lock retainer is located inside the track, and mounting screws are covered for a clean, finished look, according to the company.
