Out with the Old, In with the New: Adams Rite Constructs New Facility

After 26 years in City of Industry, Calif., Adams Rite Manufacturing Co., has moved to a new facility in Pomona, Calif. The nearly 100-year-old door hardware manufacturer spent a year designing and planning the construction of the new structure.

According to the company, the move will allow Adams Rite to utilize advanced technology and processes not possible in its old location. The building’s size, for instance, will allow the company to expand its production capabilities. At 94,000-square-feet, the new building is 36,000-square-feet larger than its previous home.

In addition, the building’s ‘built-to-suit’ floor plan will optimize work flow and increase productivity, ensuring higher quality products, according to the company.


Häfele Completes Warehouse Expansion

Based in Archdale, N.C., Häfele America Co. has completed a major warehouse expansion to its home location. The furniture hardware manufacturer has added four additional rows and 13,000-square-feet to its high rise warehouse—nearly a 33 percent expansion.

“We have been very successful in our business over the past several years,” said John Hossli, Häfele president. “And, when you increase clients and product lines, you must also increase storage space. We can now control 13,000 full pallet loads in an efficient manner.”

More expansion is planned at Häfele’s headquarters warehouse as well as facilities in Canada and Los Angeles during 2000.


Elite™ Program Provides Support to Dealers

Film Technologies International Inc. is going Elite™. The company has recently introduced a new program designed to assist flat glass window dealers worldwide in the sales and marketing of their businesses. New films, marketing materials and sales literature have also been created to support this effort.

According to the company, Elite products are high-performing solar control window films designed to protect commercial and residential buildings from the sun’s harmful rays. “We developed the Elite program to help window film dealers become more competitive in the flat glass portion of our industry. This is a complete turn key flat glass program with an emphasis on educating the consumer about the benefits of window film,” said Bill Stewart, FTI national sales manager. “This program is not for everyone – dealers are hand picked and approved by the factory. Once in the program, we fully anticipate that these dealers will rise to the top and be recognized as the best in the business,” he added.

All Elite window films are backed by a manufacturers warranty.

Granco Clark Keeps Busy

Granco Clark of Belding, Mich., manufacturer of integrated aluminum extrusion systems, has announced several new contracts. The company has been selected to provide extrusion equipment to Alexandria Extrusions of Alexandria, Minn.; provide handling equipment to Aluminum Shapes of Delair, N.J., and to upgrade the handling equipment for Futura Industries of Clearfield, Utah.

Security Lock Expands Florida Warehouse Center

Security Lock Distributors of Pompano Beach, Fla., has moved to a larger building that nearly doubles its previous space. According to the company, the relocation enables the distributor to increase its stocking capacity while providing additional space for growth. The new facility includes a showroom, which can be converted to a dealer training area. The company also has warehouse centers located in Boston and Las Vegas.

Dwyer Expands Pilot Program with Ace

The Dwyer Group Inc. of Waco, Texas, a franchise provider of residential and commercial service businesses including Glass Doctor®, has expanded its pilot program with Ace Hardware Corporation into Seattle and Tacoma, Wash. The program will give Ace customers at five locations access to professional services from a a variety of its franchises including Glass Doctor. The pilot program began last summer in Chicago and is expected to run from 12 to 18 months. Dwyer Group companies will make a variety of services available including glass repair and installation. Ace customers will be directed to the appropriate franchise and Ace will receive a portion of the service fees.
