Ironworker Elected New Jersey State Senator
Stephen M. Sweeney, financial secretary-treasurer and business agent for local union 399 in Camden, N.J., was elected New Jersey state senator in the district covering Salem County and parts of Gloucester and Cumberland.

According to a report in the Ironworker, the union's publication, Sweeney's focus on the unions and his "Get out the Vote" campaign efforts were influential in the state. "Ironworkers, painters, electricians, sheetmetal workers … and every industrial and commercial union in South Jersey," turned out to support Sweeney, reported the Ironworker.

Platta Named Senior Vice President for Linetec, Murphy VP Commercial and Architectural Sales
Scott Platta has been promoted to the position of senior vice president for Wausau, Wis.-based Linetec. Previously Platta served as a general manager and vice president for the company. In his new position he will be responsible for the Linetec/Polywood shutters program.

Also at Linetec, Jeff R. Murphy has been named vice president of commercial and architectural sales and marketing. Murphy has more than 12 years experience in the coatings industry, including marketing, sales and business management. He holds a bachelor's degree from St. John's University in Minnesota and a master's degree in business administration from the University of Minnesota.

Harmon Inc. Announces Three Promotions and One New Hire
Harmon Inc. of Minneapolis has announced three promotions at its Minneapolis office and the addition of a sales manager in its Chicago office.

Jim Theisen has been named the company's operations manager for the Minneapolis office. In this position he will supervise project managers and their development of Harmon Inc.'s commercial glass and glazing projects. He has been with the company for more than 13 years, and most recently served as senior project manager.

Also in Minneapolis, Mark Lehman has been promoted to the position of sales manager. His duties will include overseeing the sales staff, preparing project documents and labor estimates for the company's commercial glass and glazing projects. Lehman has been with Harmon Inc. for more than ten years.

Finally, Frank Tschida has also been promoted from project coordinator to engineering manager of the Minneapolis office. In his new position, he will supervise the engineering staff while helping the department schedule and prioritize multiple commercial glass and glazing projects. He has been with the company for 15 years.

Jim McGovern recently joined Harmon's Chicago office as a sales manager. He has more than 20 years experience in sales and marketing focusing on architects' and general contractors' construction products needs. In his new position he will be responsible for leading a new construction sales effort for Harmon's commercial glass and glazing systems in the Chicago area.

Elgin Named President of Royal Adhesives and Sealants
Jim Elgin, former vice president/general manager of the specialty adhesives unit for Uniroyal Technology Corp., has been named president of Royal Adhesives and Sealants. The promotion comes as a result of Quest Specialty Chemicals Inc.'s acquisition of the division in early November. Since the acquisition, it has been renamed Royal Adhesives and Sealants.

Elgin said he looks forward to the new challenges the new position will bring. "It is exciting to become part of a company whose objective is to build a solid position in the specialty chemical industry," he said.

Bostik Appoints Two
Bostik Findley Inc. of Middleton, Mass., has appointed Kent Carpenter distribution group territory manager and Arnold J. Thimons construction market development manager for the company's construction and distribution division.

In his new position, Carpenter will be responsible for sales of industrial and construction products throughout the Southern United States. Carpenter will be based in Atlanta, from which he will oversee sales and related marketing efforts in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee. Previously, he served as a technical field advisor for Tremco Inc. in Atlanta.

Thimons will be responsible for conducting construction industry market research in his new position, as well as expanding the company's business for its Chem-Calk® line of building adhesives and sealants, other construction co-brands and related products sold through lumberyards and distributors.

Graska Named D-Calc's VP Sales & Marketing
D-Calc America of St. Louis has announced the appointment of Shawn Graska to the position of vice president, sales and marketing. In this position Graska will be responsible for the growth of the company's sales and market share along with marketing its software products for the fenestration industry. Previously Graska was with Softech America.


Wausau Appoints Kovechar CFO
Wausau Window and Wall Systems of Wausau, Wis., has appointed Mark Kochevar as chief financial officer (CFO). Most recently, Kochevar served as CFO for Hoffer's, which is also based in Wausau. He is a certified public accountant and holds a master's of business administration in finance from the University of Minnesota.

In addition to this new appointment, the company has expanded the service area of John Kimball of Kimball Architectural Sales of New York, to include both upstate New York and Connecticut. Kimball has worked with the company for more than 20 years assisting glazing contractors, architects, building owners and consultants on commercial buildings with window and curtainwall systems.

Sika Appoints New Western Area Manager
Sika Industry of Madison Heights, Mich., has appointed Doug Clark to the position of Western area manager for the industrial business unit. In his new role, Clark's responsibilities include developing Sika's sealing, bonding and acoustic business in Colorado, Montana, Wyoming, New Mexico, California, Oregon and Washington.

Prior to his appointment, Clark served as Western regional manager for MCM Inc.

Lockhart Appointed President of Ceradyne Inc.
Bruce R. Lockhart has been appointed to the position of president for Ceradyne Inc.'s fused silica ceramics division, thermo materials in Scottdale, Ga.

Lockhart has more than 16 years of experience in industrial ceramics, and has held positions in R&D, marketing, manufacturing and operations management. Prior to joining Ceradyne, Lockhart spent much of his career in various engineering and management positions with Thermal Ceramic Inc.

Beh-Forrest Appointed as New National Sales Manager for Adchem
The newest national sales manager for Adchem Corp. of Riverhead, N.Y., is Ric Beh-Forrest. Beh-Forrest began his career in the adhesives industry in 1982 as a district manager for National Starch. He was promoted to sales manager in 1984, and in 1990 he joined Ashland Chemical as a technical sales representative.

NFPA Board Appoints New Chair
The board of directors of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), based in Quincy, Mass., has appointed Philip J. DiNenno, P.E., president of Hughes Associates Inc. of Baltimore, to a three-year term as chair of the association's standards council. DiNenno replaces Gary M. Taylor of Willowdale, Ontario.

In addition, the following have been appointed as new members: Rick Breezee of Brooklyn Park, Minn.; John Stevenson of San Diego; and Peter J. Gore Willse of Portland, Conn.

NSA Elects New Officers
The National Sunroom Association (NSA) has elected new officers for the 2001-2002 term. Officers are: Bob Ottaway of Westview Products Inc., president; Joe Esposito, Four Seasons Solar Products Inc., vice president; and Andy Snelling, Seaway Manufacturing Corp., secretary/treasurer. 

Schurman Retires from GANH and U.S. Aluminum
Clint Schurman has retired from his positions with the Glass Association of New Hampshire, the Maine Glass Dealers Association and U.S. Aluminum. He most recently served as an architectural sales representative for U.S. Aluminum. He and his wife plan to retire to their residence in Sebring, Fla.
