A Look at Some of the Latest Offerings in Door Locks and Hardware

It’s Electric: New Locks and More from CRL
CRLLOCKS A selection of electromagnetic locks and accessories is now available from Los Angeles-based C.R. Laurence Co. Inc. (CRL). According to John Geukens, product manager, one benefit of the electromagnetic locks is a low power requirement. “In addition, the absence of moving parts means less maintenance is required,” he said.

CRL supplies single- and double-magnet models with a range of holding forces, including shear-lock and surface-mounted models.

According to the company, shear-lock electromagnetic locks can be used with single- and double-metal doors and frames, as well as glass doors with top rails or metal frames.

CRL’s weather-resistant, surface-mount electromagnetic locks are sealed in stainless steel housings, which provide a tamper-resistant and weather-resistant lock, according to the company.

Standard electromagnetic locks are made of aluminum housings with a brushed aluminum finish. They are available with single- or double-magnets, and are UL 10C, CUL and CSFM listed.

CRL also offers its 6- by 10-inch center locks for use with all glass commercial entryways and 

“These center locks with dead latch offer a great diversity in lock function and security. The operation of the lock varies with the lock function and includes models designed for use as office locks, passage locks and storeroom locks,” said Geukens. “All four models are available for ½-inch heavy glass doors in five finishes: duranodic bronze, brushed stainless, polished stainless, polished brass and satin anodized. They also install easily without the mess of cement or silicone.”

Hoppe Gives Customers Something to Hold on To

Hoppe North America of Fort Atkinson, Wis., has recently unveiled its solid brass handle sets in polished brass, white, polished chrome, brushed chrome, matte black and oil-rubbed brass. The sets include handle extensions that the company says adapt to a variety of window treatments.

Likewise, Hoppe has also introduced four new swing door handle sets: the M156/216N Athinai, the M1020/374N Toronto and the M1603/216N and M1603/374N Rodos. All are available in a number of finishes. According to the company, the solid-brass forging offers high strength, intensity and durability as well as smooth, blemish-free surfaces. Each trim set also has a protective coating to reduce scratching, adds the company.

W & F Expands with New Multi-point Locking System
Glendale, Calif.-based W & F Manufacturing has expanded its Trilennium™ multi-point locking system to include units for single-swing and French door units in 6-feet 8-inches and 8 feet. The system also includes up to 11-inch custom door locks.

Also new to the system are two additional escutcheon styles with levers and an entry door grip that will be introduced in the fourth quarter.

The Trilennium has three spring-loaded latches that become deadbolts with 90º-thumbturn actuation. The system also has an interior panic release.

According to the company, the Trilennium system and Magnum Bolt™ have exceeded D.P. 95 rating on a 6-foot wide by 6-feet 8-inch French door application.

Marks USA Comes Through in a “Clutch”
GREAT BARRIER Marks USA now offers an electrified Grade 1 lockset featuring the “clutch.” According to literature from the company, the Electrified Survivor series locksets are available as electrically locked or unlocked and feature a lifetime mechanical warranty. When locked, the Survivor’s clutch disengages the outside lever, allowing it to turn without opening the latch. Survivor locksets are UL-listed for a three-hour fire rating and satisfy all ADA requirements.

In addition, the company has introduced the “Great Barrier” for heavy traffic and high abuse doors. The ADA compliant, UL-listed, Grade 1 mortise lockset combines full-size, stainless steel, protective plates with track-mounted levers and a concealed cylinder for maximum security and strength. Levers are attached at both ends to resist excessive pull force and are constructed of stainless steel.

The “Great Barrier” is available in a variety of exterior trim options and features an override guard lock protection, which protects the lock from unlimited torque.

The company has also released the Survivor series cylindrical lockset in both electrified and storeroom function and available with an optional key sensor.

Boyle & Chase Enters with Exit Devices9899
  A commercial product line of exit devices for glass entryways is available from Boyle & Chase of Hingham, Mass., including the high-security 98/99 series from Von Duprin. According to Boyle & Chase, the device is compatible with the majority of glass door openings, and is available in rim, mortise, surface and concealed vertical rod, as well as bottom rod.

Outwater “Bolts” in with New Collection
CREMONE Architectural Products by Outwater L.L.C. of Wood-Ridge, N.J., has introduced its line of Cremone bolts. According to Outwater, the bolts are designed for use as a simultaneous top and bottom surface and/or flush bolt on the active leaf of an opposing pair of inline doors or French doors.

The company says the solid brass bolts engage and disengage the single, door-length bolt from mortise, universal or end-piece strikes with the turn of a single knob.

The bolts come with all installation hardware and instructions, and are available in a variety of designs for varying décor and applications.

Wall Switches for Any Weather
WALL SWITCH Whether it’s rain, snow, sleet or ice, Larco of Brainerd, Minn., says its line of weather-resistant wall switches can withstand the elements to provide consistent door control. 

Available in full and reduced sizes, Larco says its weather-resistant wall switches have a completely sealed switch assembly and a rubber boot over the actuating plunger that is designed to prohibit foreign materials, such as dust and rain, from infiltrating the switch. According to the company, this design helps eliminate corrosion and circuit degradation, ensuring a switch life exceeding 10 million operations.

In addition, Larco has added to its product line a digital receiver designed to accommodate all major automatic door transmitting devices.

According to Larco, the universal receiver is compatible with the three most popular transmitters in use. In addition, the unit offers hundreds of user-selectable digital codes for high security.

The unit has an output rating of 5 amps, 28 VAC or DC, and offers user-selected power input of 12 VDC or 18-34 VAC/DC.

Bronze Craft Releases New Hardware
Lock handles, keepers and a line of stainless steel four-bar hinges are now available from Bronze Craft, which the company says are designed to provide superior strength and durability in the most demanding weather.

The 162 anti-rotational projected series handles, when used with hurricane keepers, offer a high level of performance under negative and positive loads, according to information from the company. 
In addition, Bronze Craft says its 415-9D aluminum bronze, an alloy used in aircraft engine and landing gear components, allows the hardware to withstand 700 pounds of force per handle fastening from inside or outside loading. 

Von Duprin Introduces New Electric Strike
Ingersoll-Rand’s Von Duprin division has available the 5100 electric strike. Created for medium-duty applications, the strike offers versatility, convenience and durability, according to information from the company.

Each strike kit comes standard with three faceplates for wood, aluminum or hollow-metal frames.
Locknetics, a business unit with Ingersoll Rand Security & Safety, has also announced the availability of the 672 REX TouchBar. According to information from the company, the non-latching exit bar releases electromagnetic locks and/or signals access control and alarm systems for request to exit.
