Robert Gregory Passes Away
Robert Gregory, co-owner of Oak Cliff Mirror & Glass Co., passed away on April 14 at the age of 78 after battling Parkinson’s and lung disease.

Gregory grew up in the Oak Cliff section of Dallas and joined the Navy when he was 17. After earning a purple heart and a commendation in World War II, Gregory returned to Oak Cliff and joined Oak Cliff Mirror and Glass. Over the course of 50 years, he and his brother Carl developed a small glass company into one of the largest commercial contractors in the Southwest.

Frederick P. Shaw Sr., Maker of Insulating Glass passes away
Frederick P. Shaw Sr. Frederick P. Shaw Sr., 83, of Hales Location, N.H., founder of Solar Seal Co., passed away May 2, 2003.

Shaw began his business in his garage, installing replacement glass. His business, Shaw Glass Co., grew through his work and the help and support of his wife, Terri, leading to his kitchen experiments in making insulating glass and the concept of the Solar Seal Co. In 1983, an 80,000-square-foot building was designed and built to house the present Shaw Glass/Solar Seal Co. Inc., based in South Easton, Mass. Shaw’s son, Frederick P. Shaw Jr., and his sons now operate the company.

Solutia Promotes Bendana to Market Development Manager
St. Louis-based Solutia has promoted Fred Bendana to market development manager, responsible for the Western region of the United States. In his new position, Bendana will  Fred Bendana develop architectural business for the company’s laminated glazing interlayers business within the performance products division. 

Bendana was responsible previously for the company’s launch of new color and design architectural and automotive glazing products. In addition, Bendana served on the new ventures team, where he evaluated potential acquisitions of strategic business units and products for the corporation.

Licciardello Named President
Martin Licciardello has been named president of Monroe, N.C.-based KM Systems, a Martin Licciardello manufacturer of automated entrance systems. Previously, Licciardello served as chief financial officer and director of operations for the company.

A graduate of Wake Forest University, Licciardello was a CPA working with public accounting firms and a large Charlotte, N.C.-based steel company before joining KM Systems.

Edgetech Names New Director of Commercial Business
Edgetech IG of Cambridge, Ohio, has named Randy Braun director of commercial business development. The company says the position was created specifically to take advantage of Braun’s commercial window industry experience. His responsibilities include planning and execution of all sales and marketing activities for Edgetech’s continuing development in the commercial fenestration industry. 

“Randy brings to this new position a wealth of industry knowledge and commercial window sales and marketing experience,” said Larry Johnson, Edgetech’s executive vice president.
Prior to joining the organization, Braun held a variety of sales, marketing and general management positions throughout the window industry. His most recent position was as business manager of ADCO Products of Michigan Center, Mich.

Originally from Coldwater, Ohio, Braun holds a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Siena Heights University in Adrian, Mich. 

Ferguson Named AFG Salesman in Dallas Territory
AFG Industries of Kingsport, Tenn., has announced that Matt Ferguson will become the company’s field sales representative for the Dallas area. Ferguson rejoins AFG with nine years of glass distribution and fabrication experience.

A former AFG field sales trainee, Ferguson joined the company in 1993 and later worked as a salesperson for AFG’s subsidiary, AFGD. 

Ferguson’s new responsibilities will focus on the customer service and consultative sales of AFG’s flat glass products. 

F. Barkow Names New Marketing Manager
Milwaukee-based F. Barkow has named Carol Clinkenbeard as its new marketing manager. Clinkenbeard has spent the previous six years as communications director at Dominican High School.

“We are pleased to add a seasoned professional to our staff,” said John Weise, president of F. Barkow. “As we prepare to celebrate 125 years of doing business in Milwaukee, Carol will be a tremendous asset in creating strategies to grow our business.”

Clinkenbeard’s duties will include developing long-range marketing plans, conducting research for new product development and creating and managing all trade publication advertising.

Zander and Froelich Join Wagner’s Sales Team

The Wagner Companies of Milwaukee have announced that Scott Zander has joined their team as a customer service representative.

In his new position, Zander will be responsible for generating sales orders and assisting in the resolution of customer questions.

Previously, Zander served as a member of a customer technical service team.

Tom Froelich In addition, Tom Froelich has joined as a customer service representative. In this position, Froelich will be responsible for generating sales orders and assisting customers in identifying the products that will meet their needs.

Previously, Froelich worked for a manufacturing company for which he performed a variety of tasks, including inventory auditing and control and production scheduling.

GMB Announces New Sales Rep
Montreal-based GMB International Distribution has announced that Peter Hill will be joining its sales force as a technical sales representative. In his new position, Hill will be selling GMB’s entire product line in Western Canada and will be based in West Vancouver, British Columbia.
Hill was previously responsible for the sales of insulating glass sealants in Western Canada for Morton International.

Tubelite Hires Taylor as Client Development Manager
Eric Taylor Tubelite of Reed City, Mich., has announced Eric Taylor has joined the company as client development manager.

Taylor has worked in the architectural metal industry for six years, and was previously employed by the Kawneer Co. Trained in general industry practices, Taylor will be responsible for developing Tubelite’s relationships with customers and architects.

Hiawatha Inc. of Bloomington, Minn. has added Nick Mehan to its customer service department. Mehan has five years experience as a client service representative. His responsibilities will include working closely with architects, representatives and distributors in the commercial construction market. 

Pilkington Hires New Territory Sales Manager
Pilkington North America of Toledo, Ohio, has hired Daniel Plotnick as a sales manager for the Northwest United States and Canada region. 

As territory sales manager, Plotnick will be responsible for selling Pilkington’s architectural, residential and specialty glass products and services, as well as serving as a glass information resource for architects, glazing contractors and fabricators. 

Plotnick’s region is composed of Alabama, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Utah, Washington, Wyoming, Alberta, British Columbia and Saskatchewan.

GANA Announces New Subcommittee Chair
The Glass Association of North America’s (GANA) Tempering Division’s, Standards & Engineering Committee has appointed Cec Archibald of Virtek Laser Systems as chair of its center-punch fragmentation subcommittee. Archibald volunteered to lead the industry effort in the development of a center-punch fragmentation test procedure.

Archibald has been with Virtek Laser Systems since its formation in 1994. Previously serving in manufacturing, support and sales capacities, he currently focuses efforts on product development for the construction and glass markets as a project manager. Archibald holds a business degree from Wilfred Laurier University and a Canadian industrial manager degree from the University of Western Ontario.
