Renovations Underway
at Azon Headquarters

Azon USA Inc., based in Kalamazoo, Mich., has announced the purchase and renovation of a former IBM-I/net building to serve as its new world headquarters. The new building will add 19,000 square feet of administrative space on three acres and is expected to be complete next spring.

According to company founder Jim Dunstan, the extensive renovation will include a number of upgrades that incorporate Green Building concepts.

“We are in effect recycling a 41-year old building, using methods and materials that are aimed at the reduction of green house gases into the atmosphere,” said Dunstan. “This approach helps make it an environmentally sustainable structure.”

Included in the renovation is the replacement of 70 windows with architectural-grade aluminum frames that incorporate the company’s thermal barrier technology. In addition, glazing will be high-performance energy glass that has been fabricated with Azon’s Warm-Light structural warm-edge thermal barrier air spacer.

In addition, the building’s roof will be covered with a reflective polyurethane insulation. All lighting will be designed for maximum efficiency and will have motion-controlled switching. The air-handling system will be computer-controlled and feature zone thermostats with automatic setbacks during low occupancy.

One reason Azon chose to expand was to allot additional space for testing facilities. The former administrative buildings will be converted into facilities for product testing, development and improvement.

According to Azon, a major portion of its labs are dedicated to testing developing and improving products.

Azon has also announced the launch of a new website, www.warmedge.com. This site is designed to serve as a technical resource for information on warm-edge spacers. Features of the website include the Energy Matrix™ calculator, which allows users to compare the performance of a variety of spacers with a variety of glass types.
