Optimum Windows Expands Nationally
Optimum Window Mfg. Corp. of Ellenville, N.Y., has created a national sales organization for the Western and Southern markets. The new organization will focus on meeting the demand for the company’s fire-rated windows and developing a broad distribution for its new line of special metal door and window products. 

The company has named Lou Perez as national sales vice president. He has extensive experience in the fenestration industry, having directed business development and sales operations for several New York-area window companies during his career. Perez has been a key member of the Optimum team for the past two decades, alongside his brother Candido Perez, the company’s founder and chief executive officer.

Optimum has also welcomed several new sales representatives to the national sales organization. Kevin Turner, located in Salt Lake City, is developing new territories in Utah and Colorado. Mark Smith, located in Indianapolis, is developing new markets in Indiana. Steve Bishop, based in Memphis, Tenn., covers Tennessee, Arkansas, Louisiana and Mississippi. Dave Sumner, located in Orlando, Fla., serves the southeast part of Florida. Jim Watkins, based in La Quinta, Calif., covers all of Southern California and Southern Nevada. Mike Vizcarra, based in Penngrove, Calif., covers all of Northern California. 

“We have a very dedicated and knowledgeable sales team, with the experience and skills to meet our customers needs and exceed their expectations,” said Lou Perez.


CRL Announces Management Appointment 
C.R. Laurence Co. Inc. (CRL) of Los Angeles has announced that Jackie Brown has been promoted to the position of managing director of the advertising, marketing and sales support division. She is a graduate of Chapman University in Orange County, Calif., and has a bachelor’s degree in business administration.

“We are proud to make this announcement,” said Donald Friese, president and chief executive officer. “Jackie has demonstrated exceptional organizational skills with strong leadership capabilities. We are pleased to have Jackie as a member of the C.R. Laurence team, and wish her success in this new position and with her career.”

Tremco Announces New Vice President of Sales
Mike Soeder has been named vice president of U.S. sales for Tremco Commercial Sealants and Weather-proofing. Previously he served as vice president and general manager for the company’s industrial products division.

In 1990 Soeder joined Mameco International, which was later acquired by Tremco. Over the years he has served in a variety of sales and marketing positions for both companies. He has a bachelor’s degree in communications and a teaching certificate from John Carroll University.

Guarino Appointed at Thad Ziegler Glass
Mike Guarino, CSI, CDT, has been appointed to the position of contract department manager for Thad Ziegler Glass.

Guarino joins Thad Ziegler with 29 years in the commercial and residential glass and aluminum industry. He began work with the company on September 6.

AFG Distribution Promotes Chad Nixon

Marc Massa, vice president of sales for AFG Industries in Kingsport, Tenn., has announced that Chad Nixon has been promoted to the position of field salesperson for the Charlotte, N.C., territory.

GANA Announces New Insulating Division Chair
The Glass Association of North America (GANA) has announced that Bob Larson of Craftsman Fabricated Glass is the new chairperson of the insulating division. His term began August 1 and he replaces Arthur Berkowitz of J.E. Berkowitz who had served as the interim division chair.

“In the two short years that this division has been operating, I’m pleased with the tremendous support of our members, the educational activities of the division, which include the Glass Fabrication Educational Seminars and the various technical activities that are already underway,” said Larson. “More importantly, I look forward to serving the division as it continues to grow and serve the commercial insulating glass market.”

Larson began his career with Craftsman in 1990 as an outside sales representative. In 1993 he was promoted to divisional manager of Royal Door and soon after took over responsibility for the brake shapes and aluminum divisions. He became vice president of operations in 1999 and today serves as vice president of sales and marketing.

Nixon has been with the company since 2002, when he joined the group as a sales trainee. In 2003 he was promoted to field sales for AFGD’s Birmingham, Ala., location, and most recently served as a salesperson for the AFG Fabrication-Commercial division in Tulsa, Okla.

He is a 1998 graduate of East Tennessee State University (ETSU). He received his master’s degree in 2001 from ETSU.

Pat Rome Leaves Brin/Northwestern
Pat Rome, president of Brin/ Northwestern Glass Co. in Minneapolis, left the company October 15.

“I felt I was due for a change and I’m looking at some new challenges outside the glass industry,” said Rome. “I have no definite plans yet other than achieving an MBA. One rumor, that I didn’t start, was that I was becoming a professional fishing guide on Lake of the Woods in Canada. I’m seriously thinking of making that rumor true,” he joked. 

Rome has been very involved with the Glass Association of North America (GANA) and served as its president in 2002-2003, as well as chairperson of GANA’s building envelop contractors division.

With the change, John Biehl has been promoted to president of the Brin contract division and Stan Mariska has been promoted to president of Brin Northwestern service and distribution division. Both had previously served as vice president of their respective divisions.

“They, along with Doug Nelson’s continued strong leadership, are making the transition smooth,” Rome explained. “I have no doubt that Brin will continue to grow and prosper under their leadership. The timing of my exit is good since Brin currently employs the best group of professional, experienced and well-trained employees it has ever had.” 

Granato Named Fenestration Director for DuPont
Jeff Granato has recently been promoted to the position of fenestration director for DuPont, headquartered in Wilmington, Del. Previously he served as the global architectural marketing director for the company’s Glass Laminating Solutions segment. 

Granato explained that since DuPont sells numerous products that are used in the commercial and residential fenestration industry his new responsibilities involve creating ways to combine all of the products as one offering from DuPont.

AABDC Honors Crystal Windows Executive
Ann Liang, vice president of Crystal Windows & Doors Illinois Manufacturing (Crystal Windows Chicago), has received one of the 2005 Outstanding 50 Asian Americans Business Awards by the Asian-American Business Development Center (AABDC). The award recognizes Asian-American business professionals who have made a difference in corporate America, and highlights the contributions of Asian Americans and Asian-American businesses to the economy.

“I am honored to receive this award, but credit must also go to the staff at Crystal,” said Liang. “Through hard work and innovative practices, Crystal is building a strong brand awareness in a highly competitive industry.” Crystal Windows Chicago recently expanded its manufacturing facilities by 60,000 square feet to accommodate the growth.

The AABDC Awards Gala took place June 30 at the New York Hilton.

Coastal Announces Matt Ritchie as New Regional Sales Manager
Matt Ritchie has joined Jacksonville, Fla.-based Coastal Industries as the company’s new regional sales manager for the mid-Atlantic region. In this role he will be responsible for the company’s sales in his territory, as well as its manufacturer’s representatives in the Carolinas, Tennessee, Virginia and Maryland.

Before joining Coastal, Ritchie served as the national sales manager for the Loxcreen Co.’s building products division. He has 14 years of sales experience, including eight years within the building products and glass industries.

He has a bachelor’s degree from Florida State University and currently resides in Columbia, S.C.

EGP Names New CFO and VP of Marketing 
Engineered Glass Products™ (EGP), a Chicago-based technology and manufacturing firm dealing with heated glass, has named Patrick J. Earley chief financial officer.

Earley brings to EGP more than 25-years experience ranging from auditor with KPMG Peat Marwick to company president of Ameritech Communications.

In addition, the company has named James Runnels its vice president of marketing. He joins EGP from Radio Frequency Systems Inc. where he served as vice president of operations for four years.

ADCO Announces New Addition
ADCO Products Inc. of Michigan Center, Mich., has named Ron Vollmer as the new business manager of construction, assembly and private label business. Vollmer holds a bachelor’s of science in chemistry from the University of Michigan as well as a master’s degree from Case Western Reserve University.

JLM Wholesale of Oxford, Mich., has announced Jennifer Miller as its new central U.S. sales representative.
