AGA Hosts Annual Event in Anaheim

The spacious contours of the Anaheim Convention Center hosted the 26th Annual Glass Expo, an interim name as the event morphs from Glass Expo West to the newly-announced, greatly expanded Americas’ Glass Showcase (see box below). The conference and exhibition were sponsored by the Americas Glass Association (AGA) (formerly the California Glass Association) and gained high marks for educational value and networking opportunities. 

The conference was packed with more than 20 educational seminars, while the trade show floor contained just under 100 exhibiting companies. Show attendance was recorded at more than 1,300 participants. 

Attendees were able to choose from a wide variety of presentations, and seminars were offered for both automotive and architectural shops. Sessions included customer communication, design loads, components and cladding and understanding the insurance labyrinth. Seminar participants described the sessions as “thorough” and containing “good technical information.”
Exhibitors expressed satisfaction with the event, as well. Many said they collected good leads and that the show had provided an “excellent opportunity to meet [industry] decision makers.” 

Seminar Scene
Keynote speaker Sarita Maybin kicked-off the event with an interactive seminar that provided both motivation and commonsense. Titled Adapting, Succeeding and Thriving in the Workplace, it reminded the owners and managers about managing and motivating employees and how to learn to thrive on change.

Other programs included an extremely popular one led by Mike Grossman of ACI and AGA president Donn Harter about glass railing systems. Ever a hot topic in the view-conscious West, railing design is expected to change dramatically in the future, according to both gentlemen. They discussed some of the new options that will be available in the future.

Noted authority Lance Wallach gave a very informative presentation titled IRS Secrets You Should Know and provided a tip list of ten “audit flags” for glass companies. “Did you know,” asked Wallach, “that every single amended tax return is audited? It might be a cursory review, but it is reviewed. You should be forewarned,” he said.

Next year’s trade show and conference are expanding exponentially and will henceforth be known as “Americas’ Glass Showcase.” It will be held May 18-19 at the Cashman Center in Las Vegas. 

Expo to Expand and Change into (the) Americas’ Glass Showcase
Americas Glass Association (AGA), in cooperation with USGlass magazine and the Independent Glass Association (IGA) , have announced a major partnership and development of a new show called the “Americas’ Glass Showcase.”

Designed for auto and architectural glass retailers of all types, the event will bring together three groups to hold their own conferences and develop one super-sized exposition. Both the Americas Glass Association and the Independent Glass Association will co-locate their exhibitions in one location next year, joining together to create Americas’ Glass Showcase, which will feature an auto glass area and an architectural area. USGlass magazine will serve as exclusive sales agent for the show, which will be held in Las Vegas in May next year and then begin to move around the country in late February-early March in subsequent years.

“It’s a great idea,” said AGA president Donn Harter, “Americas Glass Association serves retailers, and many retailers provide both architectural and automotive glass services. CGA and its successor AGA have concentrated their efforts on architectural glass retailers. Bringing both shows together gives those who do both, or those AGA members involved in auto glass, a greater opportunity to learn.”

“We’re excited about it,” said IGA executive director Marc Anderson. “It’s no secret that our members are in a very difficult business and many have or want to diversify into architectural glass, as well. Having access to vendors from both market segments will prove helpful to them.”

“Registrants may sign up to attend the AGA Conference, the IGA Conference or both,” said Debra Levy, publisher of USGlass, which is serving as exclusive sales agent for the event. “All registrations will include admission to the Americas’ Glass Showcase.

“We are happy to be part of this,” said Levy, “it’s going to be a great educational resource and a wonderful marketplace. It’s a great deal for attendees, and a great deal for exhibitors who get access to registrants from multiple events for one booth fee.”
