Higher Water Pressure at Lower Costs

KMT Waterjet Systems has introduced its new massive pumps for waterjet cutting called the SL-V 150 hp and the SL-V 200 hp. The pumps are the latest additions to the Streamline™ series of intensifiers, providing more pump sizes to accommodate specific applications.

Designed for customers who need more horsepower but who do not want to increase the number of pumps, the new additions eliminate the need to have several smaller pumps driving large numbers of cutting heads. They produce water under extreme pressure using two intensifiers, leaving room for a backup intensifier. The net benefit is lower operating costs, according to the company.

The pumps are easy to operate and use the same technology as the smaller versions. Other benefits include stacked intensifiers on the very front of the machines for easy access and electronic proportional control, which automates changing the pressure to any desired level.


New Cutting System Doesn’t Cut Corners

Billco Manufacturing Inc. of Zelienople, Pa., has unveiled the Ultra Series cutting system with patented MagnaDrive™ technology. The cutting system is engineered to increase cutting output by 60 percent over existing rack and pinion driven machines. Using a combination of strong magnets, the system provides fast cycle times while maintaining maximum levels of precision, according to the company. 

The company’s SuperHead™ delivers precision pneumatic cutting head pressure to deliver accelerated cutting cycle time and unlimited contour cutting capabilities. 

The Ultra Series was designed with many low-maintenance and minimal machine-wear features to provide maximum uptime.


Fast Tempering System in Finland

Glassrobots of Tampere, Finland, has introduced a RoboTemp multiconvection tempering system. 

According to the company, the new machine makes a high quality product at a fast rate of production. The company says its net sales reached a record level in 2005, and while the company’s outlook is promising, 10 percent growth in net sales would be sufficient, according to deputy MD Petri Lammi. 

The company is also designing, what is says is, the world’s largest tempering machine-with the ability to temper a glass lite that’s 3.2 meters wide and 8 meters long. 


New Automatic Seamer From Ashton Industrial

In response to demand for an affordable, fully-automatic seaming of mixed random lite sizes (custom tempering), Ashton Industrial has developed a new seaming concept which fits in factory areas where space is at a premium. 

The new patent-pending SeamMaX-X concept requires just half the space, and is a third lower in capital cost than a full FastTrack layout, according to the company.

Two parallel glass edges are processed simultaneously on each of the two legs that are linked by an automatic 90-degree transfer. The moving seamers on each leg fully, automatically seek and find the edges of random size lites at high speed without manual intervention. 

Lites are transported through the seaming stations using vacuum belts that suck the glass firmly on to the moving transport belts, resisting slippage to produce a perfect seam without contact in the upper glass surface.

The whole line is constructed from non-rusting stainless steel and large dimensioned aluminium extrusions, exploiting all the benefits of wet diamond belt grinding.

Automatic corner dubbing, edge deletion and laser logo marking options are available with no cycle time penalty.

The company has also debuted its automatic batching that uses the sequence of lites presented to the system.

Lites are measured automatically as they pass around the seaming line by calculating sensor coverage time multiplied by track speed. The programmable logic controller decides whether a lite will physically fit adjacent to the preceding one. By repeating that process, the system queues the lites in a single row. If the next lite will not fit, the whole row is moved forward so that the next lite becomes the first in a new row. Multiple rows are thus formed into a complete batch, ready to enter the furnace. 



Ti-AC 40 from AFG Industries

AFG Glass of Kingsport, Tenn., is now offering Comfort Ti-AC 40™—its premium solar control low-E coating—on a variety of tinted substrates.
By glazing the low-E coating on the second surface of a commercial insulating glass unit rather than the third surface, the coating is closer to the sun, resulting in enhanced solar protection and year-round energy efficiency for commercial buildings, according to company officials. Compared to a third-surface low-E coating, AFG's new second-surface Comfort Ti-AC 40 (on a green tinted substrate) reduces solar heat gain from 0.37 to 0.31, while the shading coefficient also improves, from 0.43 to 0.35.

Comfort Ti-AC 40 is available on green, dark green, bronze and gray substrates. 


The Look of Varnish, The Benefits of Glass

Glaverbel has unveiled Lacobel, a clear glass on one side with a high-quality paint on the other side. 

The painted side is protected by positioning it against the supporting structure. 

This process makes the glass less sensitive to staining and scratching and ensures a long-lasting appearance, according to the company. It is available in 37 colors.


FOR.EL. Introduces Automatic Arrissing Machine

FOR.EL. S.p.A. has introduced a new version of its automatic arrissing machine. The machine operates on shaped glass, both straight and non-rectilinear, and glass of small measurements (320 mm by 180 mm). The new version features the “feeler,” which is situated on the operating head, preceding the diamond wheel and running along the glass edges to supply the shape’s correct data. Two sensors record, in real-time, the characteristics, providing the correct positioning of the diamond wheel. 

Two operating units, installed in a cascade connection, allow for arrissing on two glass lites at the same time. While the first unit works on the first vertical and the upper horizontal side of the glass lite, the second works on the lower horizontal and then on the second vertical side. During the latter phase, the first head can begin operation on a second lite.

In addition, the company says it has improved its Super Spacer® applicator and the FOR.EL. hot-melt automatic sealing machine. A continuous strip of spacer profile is wound around a bobbin and directly applied on one of the two glass lites in order to form a closed frame.



NAGE and RO Software Delivers a Perfect Cut

North American Glass Equipment (NAGE) and RO Software have developed Perfect Cut Software, an optimizing program for glass cutting. The program minimizes glass waste and automatically differentiates and categorizes glass types, such as single-glazed, double-glazed, color and thickness. An algorithm layout is given after all the calculations and measurements are made. Features such as Perfect Editor and Perfect CAD allow users to change their optimizing layout for the best cutting results. With off-cut measurements, users are able to add in reusable waste, and also copy and paste shapes through e-mail. When the process is finished, the information is sent from the office to the cutting table through a CNC link or by saving the data onto a floppy disk. 


Management Software for the Building Chain

Friedman Corp. of Deerfield, Ill., has unveiled its Quote Management Information Systems (QMIS), a software for facilitating the sales process. Designed specifically for construction-related products, the software offers dealers and subcontractors the flexibility to add products to a central database for quoting. It also helps establish definitions for measurements, product categories and discounts and in return, improves order accuracy, office efficiency and lead-times, according to the company.

Product images and documentation can be displayed during the quote process with a simple mouse click and inventory of stocked items can be verified easily. Options can be attached to any product and all products can be organized into categories and subcategories.
