Canadian Expansion Brings
Opportunities for Salem

Salem Flat Glass & Mirror has added another base, and this time, it’s north of the U.S. border.

Over the past eight decades, the Winston-Salem, N.C.-based company has done business in dozens of countries, but during that time, it’s only operated facilities and offices in the U.S. That’s changed, as the company recently opened a new location in the Greater Toronto area.

“Our customer base is growing,” says Ann Greco, sales operating manager and owner of Salem Flat Glass & Mirror. “We wanted to offer additional inventory and service and maintenance options for our Canadian customers and feel now is the opportune time for this endeavor.”

Employee Josh Young stays busy at Salem Flat Glass & Mirror’s new Ontario facility.

Previously, Salem used a “public warehouse,” and paid it for packing and shipping. “We visited and inspected on a regular basis but felt the need to expand and set up our own [location],” says Greco.

The Ontario warehouse, located in Concord, will stock machinery and material-handling equipment, as well as a line of diamond tooling and supplies for glass fabrication.

“Our Concord-based distribution facility will stock thousands of fabrication supplies, material-handling products, machines and parts and will grow as our customers’ needs grow,” she says.

The location will serve all of Canada with a focus on the eastern region, though “Salem’s goal is to expand its footprint across all of Canada,” says Greco.

Hartung Dallas Implements Changes to Better Serve its Market

Hartung’s new Forel IG line is the latest addition to the company’s Dallas branch.
Hartung Glass Industries’ Dallas location is now certified as an independent Guardian Select Fabricator, joining its Seattle, Wilsonville, Ore., and Sacramento, Calif., facilities. The branch also recently installed a new automated Forel insulating glass line.

“Guardian Select Fabricator certification advances the company’s mission of controlled growth and to increase its presence as the leading supplier of fabricated glass products throughout the West and South,” says Bob Cummings, Southwest regional sales manager for Hartung. “The addition of the Forel insulating glass line further solidifies the company’s role in the flat glass market and will increase the value that Hartung delivers to customers.”

Nick Sciola, Hartung president and owner, adds, “Hartung Glass is very proud of our roots in Texas as an active member of the local glass community since 2002. Texas is leading the growth, and Guardian Select Fabricator certification, along with the addition of new equipment, will complement our existing lines and enhance our ability to better serve the region with an extremely experienced and talented team and our own fleet of trucks delivering to new and existing customers.”
