Up Vegas
very city has a soul, and that of Las Vegas gleams
through the city’s lite-lined strip. And glass headlines the
E
makeover the city has gotten by turning classic Vegas
favorites and old traditions into contemporary attractions.
With GlassBuild America right around the corner, we’ve
compiled a list of some recently constructed projects you
won’t want to miss.
SLS Hotel & Casino
Las Vegas
2
535 S. Las Vegas Blvd.
At the former location of the Sahara
Hotel & Casino, now stands the SLS
Hotel & Casino Las Vegas, an ultramod-
ern boutique hotel and casino reminis-
cent of the Rat Pack era that dominated
Vegas in the sixties.
RCDV was the architect on the project,
which embodies Hollywood Boulevard
and the Sunset Strip. The hotel and ca-
sino features a glassy façade of Guard-
ian’s SunGuard SNR43 and SunGuard
AG 50 glass. Oldcastle BuildingEnve-
lope® was the fabricator, and Hein-
aman Contract Glazing was the contract
glazier.
In addition to its low solar heat gain
coefficient, SunGuard SNR 43’s neu-
tral color provides a light silver exterior
appearance and medium reflectivity.
SunGuard AG 50 also adds high visible
light transmission with medium reflectiv-
ity and solar control properties for this
iconic hotel.

The Lucky Dragon Hotel and Casino
3
00 West Sahara Ave., near Las Vegas Blvd.
In China, there’s an ancient belief that
the color red symbolizes luck and wards off
evil. In Vegas, the Lucky Dragon Hotel and
Casino hopes this tradition proves true. One
of the city’s newest projects, and its first
Asian themed hotel and casino, welcomes
visitors with a glowing red exterior made of
red laminated insulating glass. Upon enter-
ing, guests can expect to be greeted by gold
laminated insulating glass and a 2,500-
pound glass dragon hovering above the ca-
sino floor. Thanks to the building’s architect,
Ed Vance and Associates, the Lucky Dragon
was designed to capture the city’s vibrant
views, no matter which room patrons are
assigned.
The red glass was supplied by Viracon,
and the gold glass was supplied by Glass-
werks. Giroux Glass was the contract glazier.
