    The Fourth Annual International Window Film Conference and Expo™ Heads to Texas

As we enter the new year, many of us make New Year’s resolutions, both personally and professionally. One of the main ones we declare is to improve our businesses, work harder and be more successful all around, and one of the best ways to do this is to attend conferences devoted to our professions and learn new tips and strategies from our colleagues in our respective industries.

Thankfully for the window film industry, the fourth annual International Window Film Conference and Expo™ (IWFE), the only event devoted exclusively to the window film industry, is heading our way. This year’s IWFE will be held at the Adam’s Mark San Antonio Riverwalk in San Antonio, January 23-25, 2003.

Educational Events
The conference will begin on Thursday, January 23, with a seminar by John Baker, “Breaking the Rules—Making the Sale.” Baker, who is an instructor for the Sandler Institute in Irvine, Calif., has been involved in sales training for more than 15 years and has several years of experience working with companies in the glass industry.

Following Baker's discussion on making the sale, seminars on “How to Get Started in the Window Film Business” and “How to Move Your Business Forward in 2003” will be held subsequently to meet the needs of both those getting started and those who have been applying film for awhile.
In the afternoon, the International Window Film Association (IWFA) will offer its advanced solar control film accreditation test.

After the testing is complete, several more seminars, including “Selling Energy Conservation” and “Effective Structuring of Your Business Proposals,” will be held. In addition, Jack Mundy of CPFilms Inc. will moderate a dealer roundtable on automotive film.

Friday will start out bright and early with a seminar on “Advanced Security Film Attachments” by Scott Haddock, president of the Protective Glazing Council and GlassLock in San Jose, Calif. 
Next, Vicki Lovell of InterCode Inc. will take the podium to discuss “The Impact of Building Codes on the Window Film Business.”

Following Lovell, a seminar on “Basic Accounting and Cost Control for Film Companies” will provide shop owners with some pointers for keeping track of their books.

Darrell Smith, executive director of the IWFA, and Jeff Cipolla, chair of the IWFA’s education committee, will then provide an overview of the “Past, Present and Future of IWFA Educational Sessions.”

On Saturday morning, several more seminars will round things out. “Diversification in Business” will allow shop owners an opportunity to look into the future and think about some services they might be able to add on to their film businesses easily.

Finally, Deb Levy, publisher of Window Film, will offer “Marketing Your Shop—How to Get Free Publicity,” giving shops a chance to learn about a topic on which everyone can improve: marketing.

Networking Time
In the afternoon on both Thursday and Friday, the trade show will be open for business. (See the January-February 2003 issue for a complete exhibitor list.) Likewise, networking events—including a Texas-Style Country Western Party complete with a country band, a cocktail party and new products breakfast—will offer attendees a chance to meet fellow applicators, manufacturers and distributors.

Tint-Off Time
In addition, on Saturday afternoon, the Second Annual International Tint-Off™ will be head. The first-place winner will receive $1,000, a custom leather jacket and 4-foot trophy; second-place will receive a trophy and free room and registration at next year’s conference; and third place will receive a trophy and free registration at next year’s event.

It’s never too early (or too late) to start gearing up for IWFE 2003. It is certain to be an event you won’t want to miss.
