Urban Legend?
Dear Window Film:
I have two comments about items appearing in the September-October edition of Window Film.

In “The Back Page—Film in the News” section, on page 32, pertaining to “Word of Weather Caution: Window Film to Blame?”—I have used a weather alert radio in a home with old single-pane glass, which I tinted with 35-percent silver reflective Llumar® tint, and the radio worked fine. I also used the same radio in a home with low-E, double-pane glass, tinted with CPFilms’ Vista V-28, and it worked just fine.

Unless there are reproducible scientific results proving otherwise, maybe we should view this as another case of people not knowing the product limitations, or how to operate their equipment properly, and blaming something or someone else (and then using the Internet to spread it like the “This August, Mars is going to appear as big as the full moon” misinformation).

Also, “Can ...” anyone really “... hear me now,” without an expensive satellite phone, while in the mountains fly-fishing? This may apply to the article on page 22 about metallized film interfering with auto electronics. My personal experience, and that of dozens of friends and family whose vehicles I’ve tinted, is that the film has no effect on electronics’ operations. Perhaps those folks with trouble always had trouble, or bought the vehicle with tint already on it, so they had no knowledge of original interference problems that existed before the tint was applied. Or, maybe they never complained about it until the tint was applied.

What a Coincidence
Dear Window Film:
I just read the September-October 2007 issue of Window Film magazine. It was very informative.

Anyway, as you may or may not know, four of the five dealers whose websites you reviewed were actually dealers with whom I work! Sunray, J&J, Sam’s and Window Film Depot all are dealers of Energy Products Distribution (EPD).

As you know and wrote about on page 11 of your July-August 2007 issue, EPD has an online training course titled EPD University. One of the classes we run is how to get your website noticed. I’d like to think that our class is working if 80 percent of the above websites in your article were EPD dealers. Perhaps there is a follow-up story in this?

Cops Like Film Too
Dear Window Film:
I just read your article “Cracking Down” in the September-October 2007 issue of Window Film (see page 14). I have been tinting at my location for 25 years and would like to pass on my thoughts.

The number-one industry we see our window film customers working in is law enforcement!

It’s unbelievable, but, if we count local and state police, all the three-letter federal agencies that wear a badge, as well as people that work in the correctional facilities that wear a badge, it’s true. Heck, we even have one customer who is a Ford dealer and does a lot of police-fleet sales. Imagine what it’s like for us to put film on a police car!

Dear Window Film:
I have been receiving Window Film magazine for a couple of years now and I find it very informative. I have been in the window film business since the early 1970s as a business owner and installer. I also have trained quite a few people in both automotive and flat glass, as well as safety film.
